Fall is in the Air: Books and Activities for the Whole Family

Fall is such a wonderful time of year with fun crafts, engaging activities, precious books to read, and delicious recipes.  Here are just a few to get you started.

Pictured below is a fun Shape Pumpkin to combine Halloween, pumpkins, coloring, visual perception, fine motor practice, and shape recognition. (Shoo, that is a lot of learning!)

This activity is included in the ABC Jesus Loves Me Preschool 5 Year Curriculum for Halloween.  And to further the learning give this hilarious book a try: The Runaway Pumpkin.

This pumpkin worksheet could also be used with the following pumpkin books:

The Pumpkin Gospel - A book to read while you carve a pumpkin that explains the gospel message.

The Pumpkin Patch Parable - A story explaining how we are like pumpkins and God is like a farmer.  He chooses us and makes us precious.

Or how about a Pumpkin Craft?

This is a simple idea that I came up with to create a pumpkin or jack-o-lantern for Halloween or Fall.  Use it for decoration or as a craft.  What's great about this activity is that a toddler can paint and assemble with a little help while an elementary child can do this craft on his own.

Paint a paper lunch bag orange on all sides, leaving the top two inches to paint green.  Let dry.  Stuff with crumpled up newspaper or grocery sacks.  Tie off the top with a green pipecleaner and twist as the vine.

Thinking ahead to Thanksgiving?

And just in time for the "Month of Thanks" is a precious book by Eileen Spinelli (author of Nora's Ark).  With precious rhymes, Thankful reminds us that everyone has something to be thankful for.

The gardener's thankful for every green sprout.
The fireman, for putting the fire out.
The poet is thankful for words that rhyme.
The children, for morning story time.
The illustrations are soft but filled with life, drawing the child into each line of the book.  And as all great children's books close, the child is reminded that you are thankful for them.

But I've just shared a few of ideas.  Click for more Christian Halloween and Fall ideas found on the ABCJLM website.
