Turning Impossible Into Possible, Part 3

This week (read Day 1) we have been focusing on personal goals.  Using the article by Joan Esherick entitled "Resolution Solutions:  6 Great Ways to Make Your Goals Stick" as our guide, today we will be digging into the last three suggestions to turn impossible into possible.

  1. Be specific
  2. Be realistic
  3. Include a way to measure your success
  4. Think short-term and long-term
  5. Be flexible
  6. Review periodically
4.  Think short-term and long-term
Just having a baby, I have some extra rolls to get rid of.  Obviously, this is going on my list.  Let's break it down and review from yesterday.
Lose weight - not specific
Be supermodel trim - not realistic
Lose ____ lbs - measurable!
Lose 1 lb a week for ____ weeks - Short term goal - weekly with a long term goal - reached!
5.  Be flexible
I am guessing that all of us would love to have 30 minutes of uninterrupted time in the morning with our Savior, holding our Bible in one hand and a hot drink in the other.  Praise music quietly playing in the background with a warm shower waiting to end the amazing prayer time.  It starts out so well.  Just five minutes in...Oh, what was that!  A toddler!  Crying!  He just said his diaper fell off!  Seriously!

Quiet time might "look" different that day.  Quiet time might consist of you singing praise music to your feverish little one while you hold her in the rocking chair.

Playing with your kids?  Not every day are you going to be able to sit on the floor for three hours and play farm or dolls.
Pick up where you are.  Tomorrow is a new day.  Praise the Lord!

6.  Review periodically
Where is success occurring?
Which goal is a discouragement?  Why?
Have new situations come into your life that require you to tweak your goal for a while?

Bring your list to your quiet time twice a month and ask God to lead you.  Discuss it with a friend or your husband.  They may see success that you didn't even realize was occurring.

A lot to think about.  Tomorrow, I will share my goals.  I would love to hear yours!
